The Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA) has selected both Ironwood and Fisterra for its Texas Original (TxO) program. TCA chose the artisans based not only on their ability to create high-quality, authentic and original works, but also on their high business and artistic standards.

Ironwood's Umasi Collection, designed to blur the line between furniture and sculpture, has been selected to be part of the prestigious Smithsonian Craft Show in 2007.  The work will be on display at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. from April 19 – 22, 2007.

Over the past two years Brian David Johnson has built the majority of the cabinetry and other built-ins for the Tortuga Residence.  The extensive remodel of the Lake Austin home by Austin based design/build firm Bercy Chen Studio is featured in the recent Design Vanguard issue of Architectural Record magazine.

Work from Studio-K is featured in the February issue of The Artful Home.

Todd Campbell and Jennifer Chenoweth of Fisterra Studio are featured in two segments of Home & Garden TV's "Look What I Did!"  Todd builds a fence in episode #102, and episode #301 features Jennifer and Todd making concrete counters.  Go here for showtimes.

"Is it marble or is it faux"? published February 22 in the Austin American Statesman features the work of Zita Raymond of Zita Design.  Brian David Johnson was profiled in the "Makin' It" section of the same issue.

Lars Stanley and Lauren Woodward Stanley are authors of "Home for the Homeless" in the most recent issue of Texas Architect magazine.  The article is about the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless building in Austin.

Metalwork by Lars Stanley Metalworks was included in Dona Meilach's latest book — "Ironwork, Dynamic Details", published by Schiffer. And the firm's architectural work appears in "Architecture for Architects" by Michael Crosbie, published by The Images Publishing Group.

Kent Samuelson, of Lightcrafters, Inc. has been selected by the Texas Commission on the Arts to participate in their pilot program "Texas Original (TxO)."  Kent is one of 30 artisans and crafts people chosen for their high quality, original and authentic work.

Holly Kincannon of Archaic has received a 2006 Preservation Award from the Heritage Society of Austin for her work as principal designer on the interior restoration of St. Mary's Cathedral in downtown Austin.

A large fireplace niche carving of a stylized tree by Archaic's Joseph Kincannon was featured in the August issue of Austin Monthly Home.

The Fall 2006 issue of Log Home Design Magazine chose Clayworks' multi-tile address plaque as one essential feature for a well appointed Southwestern style cabin.

Archaic received a Premier Award Commendation in an international competition sponsored by the British Association of Burial Authorities for their Georgetown Cemetery project  (profiled in the Austin American Statesman April 16, 2006).  At the London awards ceremony the design was noted for "holistic efforts to integrate memorial design, xerescaping and community needs .

Clayworks' John Gray, a constant gardener is the winner of The Austin Olla Design Contest.

The January 06 issue of Austin Home & Living Magazine features AArC charter member Architerra as "the centerpiece of the Design Center of Austin in South Congress' Penn Field, having brought nine businesses together to cater to shoppers who delight in fine materials".  Read the entire article.

"Now the Texas Hill Country provides inspiration for Levack's large scale sculptures, pavilions, trellises, deckscapes, fountains, furniture and signage," begins an Austin American Statesman "Makin' It" feature on Chris Levack of Levack Sculpture and Constructions.

Wells Mason of Ironwood Industries is interviewed in the Mar/Apr 2006 issue of Fine Furnishings International Magazine for an article that explores the intersection of architecture and furniture design.

An Architectural Digest story, "Discoveries by Designers", June 2006 includes references to Ironwood's Celeste chair and quotes Steven Holl of Steven Holl Architects of New York:  "The craftsmen at Ironwood do brilliant work."

Fisterra Studio, Holly Everett, Brian David Johnson, and
Eric Billig W O R K S are all featured local furniture designers at IF + D in downtown Austin.  We all appreciate IF + D as they are one of the few stores featuring local talent.  And they sell really cool sustainable flooring too!


Lightcrafters – has been selected to participate in the pilot program Texas Original (TxO).  This is a program developed and implemented by the Texas Commission on the Arts in support of the Craft Initiative.

Lars Stanley Metalworks — Two regional homes incorporating sustainable principles and handcrafted elements are featured in the newly released book, Good House Cheap House.

Lars Stanley Metalworks was awarded a public art commission for metalwork at Texas Tech University.

Fisterra Studio, Clayworks, Blue Genie Art, and others will participate in the East Austin Studio Tour  (EAST) on November 19th & 20th of 2005 (10am–5pm).

Lars Stanley, AIA, and Mark Macek will lead a discussion entitled Contemporary Handmade Detail at the Texas Society of Architects Annual Convention.  The presentation is part of the American Institute of Architects continuing education program and will take place September 17, 2005 in San Antonio, Texas.

Ironwood Industries — introduces "The Umasi Collection", a new series of sculptural furniture designed by Wells Mason.  The collection includes tables, chairs, desks, beds, and benches.  "The Umasi Collection" is on view at their new showroom on the 9th Floor of the Dallas World Trade Center.  September 2005

Todd Campbell of Fisterra Studio will be showing his functional metal work in the Texas Metal Arts Show in Gruene, Texas.  September 10-11

Jennifer Chenoweth and Todd Campbell of Fisterra Studio will have a showing of their recent artwork entitled "Organic" at the Dougherty Arts Center Gallery in September 2005.  The show's opening reception will be Saturday, September 3, from 4-7 p.m.  Preview page at Fisterra website.

Ironwood Industries — The Austin American-Statesman newspaper features Wells Mason of Ironwood Industries in an article entitled "The Artists of Coupland."  Mason moved his studio to Coupland in 1999, and the newspaper article describes the burgeoning artist community in this small town located east of Austin.  August 2005

Lars Stanley Metalworks — Recent articles published in Texas Architect include one on public art at Easterwood Airport in the July issue by Lars Stanley and Lauren Woodward and one on green roofs in the November issue by Lauren Woodward.

LIGHTCRAFTERS, INC.Passions, the NBC daytime drama has selected nine wall sconces from Lightcrafters for use on their permanent set.  They needed them, including three that were 18" wide and 35" tall, in their studio in 7 days. Lightcrafters was able to deliver them on time and within budget.

Macek Furniture launched a new production line at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York City from May 14-17, 2005. ICFF is North America's premier event for contemporary design, drawing more than 21,000 interior designers, architects, and retailers from around the world. The production furniture company is known as Macek Solid Arts.

Ironwood Industries — Several projects by Ironwood Industries appear in the April 2005 issue of Architectural Record magazine.  The featured house is a private residence in Abiquiu, New Mexico designed by Steven Holl Architects. Projects include built-in kitchen cabinets, a kitchen island, a built-in desk, and a standalone closet unit.

Architectural Artisans Collaborative – The Architectural Artisans Collaborative is one of 16 Austin arts organizations featured in the city's recent Austin Art publication featuring key creative groups.  2005

Ironwood Industries — Wells Mason of Ironwood Industries was invited to show his work at The Center for Contemporary Craft in Houston's Museum District.  Mason exhibited several sculptures and signature benches. November 2004 – January 2005

Ironwood Industries — Several projects by Ironwood Industries appear in the November/December 2004 issue of Southern Accents magazine.  The featured house is a private residence in Austin, Texas.  Projects include forged steel fireplace screens and a low table built of wenge and sycamore.

Fisterra Studio artists Todd Campbell and Jennifer Chenoweth were profiled in the Austin American Statesman article, "Artists in Residence," (a PDF document) November 18, 2004, as a preview to the E.A.S.T. Fall 2004 tour.

Blue Genie Art, Blacksmith - Hawkeye Glenn, and Macek Furniture are profiled in the art and design magazine Tribeza.  The article, entitled "East Austin Studios," chronicles the trials of artists working in a changing neighborhood.  August 2004

Blue Genie Art was awarded the 2004 Merit Award for Organizations from the Heritage Society of Austin for work on two projects  (Cornice frieze at 811 Congress, and the widow's walk reconstruction at 608 Baylor.)  2004

Jennifer Chenoweth of Fisterra Studio served as Design Team Artist on the City of Austin's East 7th Street Corridor Project through Art in Public Places. The Design Team will soon complete its two year project to redesign the streetscape of this main travel route in Austin.
