After thirty years downtown, Landers’ Studio moved from its location at 404-B Baylor Street to its new location at 500 West Saint Elmo Road this past September 2005.  Mark and Tina Landers also sold their home of over 33 years and moved house and business into a 7,000 square foot metal building in a 3-acre compound.  The building, designed by Emily Little, has two large studio areas, one studio at each end with a dogtrot in the middle.  The Landers live in a loft above their office.  The second studio is leased to John Christensen, a metal sculptor, and to Roger Foster, a stone sculptor.

Mark quit working on paying commissions in May 2005 to start preparing for the move.  The new space required quite a bit of electrical work to bring in 3-phase wiring and to run conduit under the concrete floor to work stations.  Mark also had to build out the new office area in his studio space.  He contracted with riggers for moving his biggest machines. And Mark and Tina both thank all the AArC members who pitched in to help them move so many of the smaller machines, cabinets, etc.  With a closing on their former home in mid-October, they had to immediately get the living space ready for occupancy, which meant painting, finishing floors, running trim, etc.  So it was actually around January 2006 before Landers’ Studio was able to get back into production.

Landers’ Studio now is in full swing and currently working on a commission for a mesquite altar and ambo for the University Catholic Center at The University of Texas.  Although Mark knows the new studio, loft space and landscaping will keep him busy with side projects for years to come, he said, "We are totally energized by our new space and lifestyle.  We love our work and never intend to retire anyway, so these new arrangements just insure that!"
