Ironwood Industries
Wells Mason
http://www.ironwoodindustries.com/

fashion photography shoot by Ryan SlackIn September, Wells and Lisa opened the doors of their Coupland farmhouse to a fashion photo shoot!  The shoot featured exquisite clothing and jewelry from Austin's best boutiques, including Fetish, Julian Gold, Eliza Page, Girl Next Door, Feathers Boutique, and By George.  Ryan Slack, the photographer (http://www.rslack.com/), got lots of great shots — in fact, here's a picture of Melanie in the living room!

Ironwood is working on several projects for different clients, including bedroom furniture for an interior designer, metalwork for an historic house in Austin, and a kitchen island for a ranch in Coupland.  And they've just completed a mammoth project for a client at the Hilton — a media center that doubles as a home office, with oversized sliding doors that glide effortlessly across the front of the unit.

"Blurring the Lines" is an article in The fall issue of Organic Spa magazine.  The editors selected The Umasi Collection as a perfect example of alternative, sustainable design.  To see the article, http://www.organicspa-digital.com/issues/4/ and turn to page 21.

In November, Ironwood was featured on Apartment Therapy!  This article shows their favorite kind of commission — lots of projects for one client.  Ironwood built the kitchen cabinets, the bath cabinets, the stair system, the copper gate, and a massive ceiling-mounted light fixture!  To see the article, please go to http://www.re-nest.com/re-nest/home-tours.

Jim was featured in a five-page cover story in the February issue of the Texas Longhorn Journal.  Jim was commissioned to produce a series of cast bronze longhorn awards for various 2008 Texas Longhorn Marketing Alliance longhorn auctions.  Jim is also at work on a full scale bronze longhorn for the Chisholm Trail Commemorative park in Round Rock.

The Studio is completing his latest big door for Don Crowell Homes and Miro Rivera AIA for a private Lake Austin residence.  The 500 pound, copper-clad door is 8'-6" x 4'-11" by 7" thick at the apex of its trapezoidal shape, rotating on a hydraulic pivot and secured with custom hand-made wrought bronze deadbolt and keyed cylinder.  The picture shows the door core being trial installed in a test jamb at the studio, prior to the copper cladding.

Landers' Studio
Mark Landers
http://www.landersstudio.com/

As part of the celebration of its 100th anniversary since its founding in 1908, St. Austin Catholic Parish commissioned Landers’ Studio to create new furniture for the church including an altar, ambo, cantor stand, presider’s chair and credence table. Mark Landers won the commission with his proposals that incorporated marble and bronze elements from the communion rail that had been removed years before.

The crest rail of the ambo (or pulpit) was patterned after the braided Celtic carving on the columns of the baldachino.  Landers used fifteen parishioners to help move and assemble the 700 lb. altar.  Once in place, a concealed caster system allows one person to easily move the altar for different liturgies.

Out west, Lars completed 8 sculptures for a public art commission in Oro Valley, Arizona.  His foundry created the sculptures which are six to seven feet tall.  They were inspired by desert riparian plant forms, set into concrete benches.

Macek Furniture
Mark Macek

Mark created Seminar Tables for the University of Texas at Austin Life Science Library.  The Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Paul Woodruff, commissioned the renovation of the lobby of the Life Science Library, located below the UT Tower. Six new classrooms specifically for seminar and discussion classes, were built where the card catalogs had been located.

Dean Woodruff also commissioned Macek Furniture to design and fabricate six custom seminar tables.  The tables were designed to compliment the 1930's Spanish Revival library interior.  Each table top is an ellipse, 14 feet long by 8 feet wide, made of solid walnut with a spalted maple diamond-shaped center and string inlay patterns of wenge and maple.  The base is ash lumber, bent laminated to form the curved rails.  Each seminar table seats 18 people.
